StoreNotch is built to know as little about you and your customers as possible. This policy explains exactly what the Mac app, the StoreNotch app on Shopify and this website collect, where it goes, and how to have it deleted.

The short version

  • StoreNotch never asks for or stores your customers' names, emails, phone numbers or addresses.
  • Your orders, products and stock go straight from Shopify to your Mac. They aren't stored on our servers.
  • Our servers keep only what's needed to keep your store connected.
  • No ads, no analytics, no tracking, and we never sell data.
  • Uninstall StoreNotch from your store and its records on our servers are deleted.

1. What StoreNotch reads from Shopify

When you connect a store, StoreNotch asks Shopify for read-only access to:

  • orders from the last 60 days: totals, discounts, refunds, sales channel, shipping status, returns and the products in each order;
  • products and inventory: names, prices, stock levels and locations;
  • basic store details: its name, currency and time zone.

StoreNotch doesn't request customer details. Shopify keeps those behind a separate permission, and StoreNotch doesn't ask for it.

2. What stays on your Mac

The Mac app fetches your store's data directly from Shopify and adds it up on your Mac. Those numbers, your settings and your goals stay on your Mac. The app keeps its sign-in code in your Mac's Keychain.

Your Mac holds this data only while StoreNotch uses it. Deleting the app, or removing a store in Settings, removes it from that Mac.

3. What our servers keep

Our servers do three jobs: connecting your store, renewing Shopify's access, and checking your subscription. For that, we keep:

  • your store's Shopify address (for example, your-store.myshopify.com);
  • the access Shopify issues to StoreNotch for your store, encrypted;
  • a scrambled copy (a one-way hash) of the code that links your Mac to your stores, so the code itself is never stored;
  • your Mac's name, which shows which Mac a store is connected to, and when that Mac was last seen;
  • short-lived codes used while connecting or subscribing, which expire within minutes.

Your subscription status isn't stored. We check it with Shopify when your Mac refreshes its access. Like most websites, our hosting provider also keeps standard request logs, such as IP addresses, for a short time to keep the service secure.

4. This website

This website doesn't use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. The only cookie is a temporary security cookie set while you connect a store, which protects that step from forgery and is cleared once it's done.

5. Who we share it with

We don't sell, rent or share your data for marketing. Shopify hosts your store, handles billing and provides the data StoreNotch reads.

6. How long we keep it

We keep a store's records for as long as StoreNotch is installed on it. When you uninstall StoreNotch, Shopify tells us and we delete that store's records. Shopify also sends a deletion request 48 hours after an uninstall, and we act on that too.

Because StoreNotch never stores customer data, requests to see or delete a customer's data come back empty: there's nothing of theirs to hand over or erase.

7. Your choices and rights

You can:

  • disconnect a store from a Mac in StoreNotch's Settings;
  • remove StoreNotch's access completely by uninstalling it from your Shopify store.

Depending on where you live, privacy laws such as the GDPR or the CCPA may give you more rights, like correcting your data or objecting to how it's used.

8. Security

Everything travels over encrypted connections. Shopify's access to your store is stored encrypted, and the codes that link your Macs are stored only as scrambled hashes, so the codes themselves aren't kept anywhere. Only the systems that need these records can reach them.

9. Children

StoreNotch is a tool for businesses and isn't meant for children under 16.

10. Changes

If we change how StoreNotch handles data, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll also tell you through the app or this website.
